Maricel and Jon’s goal for their Brooklyn wedding day was to have an amazing party with delicious food surrounded by loved ones – and their dogs! In the words of Maricel: “We wanted our wedding to feel true to us and take away the “traditional” elements that didn’t mean much to us.” What better place to host their wedding than at their favorite local pizza shop – Roberta’s in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
One of the standout details of the day was the living tropical decor supplied & styled by local garden-center owner Irene from Outside Space NYC. The ceremony space where Maricel & Jon exchanged their vows was beautifully decorated with giant living tropical plants. In addition, all of the tables were lined with living potted plants, all on loan from Outside Space. How about that for a chic yet sustainable wedding idea? Couples can either rent & return or purchase living plants that can then be given to guests afterwards as favors. As many may know, Bushwick is a very eclectic, artistic area in Brooklyn. All of Maricel & Jon’s wedding guests came fit for the occasion dressed in hip, fashion-forward looks with a mix of vintage & designer pieces.

For their Brooklyn wedding day, Maricel’s makeup was done by Kathy Kho and hair by Yui Yoshida. She wore a designer dress by Cecilie Bahnsen. Her shoes were Japanese-inspired Tabi-toe Mary Janes by Maison Margiela in black leather. Maricel’s jewelry was made by Kerrie Starling. Jon wore a suit by Todd Snyder. The couple had their DJ friend (Yoon Lee – culturetrader) spinning their favorite records throughout the evening. Maricel walked down the aisle to The Way I Feel Inside by The Zombies and their first dance was to This Is The Day by The The. The day was planned beautifully by Rose Ahn Events. For the desert the couple had a variety of their favorites from local NYC bakeries including chocolate cake from Ladybird Bakery, crepe cake from Lady M, Banana Pudding from Magnolia Bakery, and Mochi from Patisserie Tomoko.
Maricel & Jon’s advice to couples currently planning their wedding: “Build the wedding around what is most important to you and your partner rather than what you think a wedding should be and hire a coordinator or planner to not make yourself go mad in the organizational mess!”
